# Filebeat preventing freeing up disk space

Hello,
We have filebeat-1.2.3-1 installed configured. Since it running so far, we faced an issue with disk space being prevented by filebeat, which required restarting filebeat periodically.
Can anyone please help to address the issue.

There are some issues in the 1.x release with open file handlers where filebeat keeps a file handler open. I assume your problems are related to this. These are fixed in the 5.x releases. I strongly recommend to upgrade.
