# First time errors

Hello

New to Elastic Search and Kibana. Have installed both on w Windows 2012 R2 VM following [https://girl-germs.com/?p=438](https://girl-germs.com/?p=438).

I can now browse to [http://localhost:5601](http://localhost:5601) on the local server, but get a Red status with the following issues:

- ui.settings - Elasticsearch plugin is red
- plugin:elasticsearch@5.3.2 - Unable to connect to Elasticsearch at http://FQDN.to.server:9200 The only changes I have uncommented and made are: **elasticsearch.yml:** cluster.name: ES1 path.data: F:\LogData

**kibana.yml**  
elasticsearch.url: "[http://FQDN.to.server:9200](http://FQDN.to.server:9200)"

Have I missed anything?

Can you open your browser on the Kibana server, and try to go to [http://FQDN.to.server:9200](http://FQDN.to.server:9200)? Does that work? What do you get back?
