Hi,

I am trying to create some dummy data. I want to add a geopoint using the dev tools but I am struggling.

I am using the below api:

```auto
PUT my_index/_doc/1
{
  "text": "Geo-point as an object",
  "location": {
    "lat": 41.12,
    "lon": -71.34
  }
}
```

and i get two numeric values with the lat and lon co-ordinates but there is no geopoint....

am I missing something?!?

Thanks in advance,
Amy

Hi @AmyMCollins

Yup missing the mapping which defines the `geo_point` type.🙂

Look at the example [here](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/geo-point.html)

You need to create a mapping first.. then add the doc.
