# Getting {"error":"no handler found for uri \[/\_security/api\_key\] and method \[POST\]"}

Getting {"error":"no handler found for uri [/\_security/api\_key] and method [POST]"} when following instructions in [Create API key API | Elasticsearch Guide [8.3] | Elastic](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/security-api-create-api-key.html) to create an api key.

Elasticsearch version: 8.3.2 on Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS.

What is your elasticsearch.yml configuration?

Example questions to rule out.

Do you have security and API Keys enabled in config?  
Do you have a license for API Keys? For example, did you install a license, or enable a trial license in config or API?
