# Getting "Login is currently disabled because the license could not be determined." in Kibana

Hi,
I have installed Elasticsearch and Kibana along with X-Pack. Everything was working fine until I change the default password in Kibana. All of a sudden, `"Login is currently disabled because the license could not be determined. Please check that Elasticsearch has the X-Pack plugin installed and is reachable, then refresh this page."` this message came and not able to access Kibana.
I have tried restarting Kibana, Elasticsearch and even the server but of no luck.
I'm using 5.6.3 version of ELK and X-Pack.

Are you looking to change the Elasticsearch credentials?
There are two credentials Kibana generally uses. The built-in "kibana" user, which inherits the `kibana_system` role. This user is what the Kibana backend uses to manage mappings, etc. To change the default password, you can login to Kibana and goto `Management > Security > Users`, select the Kibana user and choose Change Password. It will also remind you to update the `kibana.yml`
Any users you would like to use can be added to the `kibana_user` role. You can continue to use the provided `elastic` user and change it's password. Or, create a new user and add the `kibana` role to it.

Hi @tylersmalley,
Thanks for the quick response.
I have changed the password for elastic user and have created few users with "kibana\_user" role.
When I refreshed the page, login is blocked and it shows the message `"Login is currently disabled because the license could not be determined. Please check that Elasticsearch has the X-Pack plugin installed and is reachable, then refresh this page."`.
I have tried updating the license but it says `Error 404`.
Should I change anything, please let me know

This is because of the credentials in the `kibana.yml` file. You will need to update those to reflect your changes. I would recommend using the `kibana` user for this.
