# Guideline for creating user to run elasticsearch5.5.1

I installed elasticsearch 5.5.1 from a gzip on centos6 file but when I start it as root I am getting the error

> java.lang.RuntimeException: can not run elasticsearch as root

I searched for a document on how to create username for starting elasticsearch but I couldn't find any. can someone guide me on this step ?

This is a centos question. Not related to elasticsearch IMO.

`adduser` maybe ?
