# How can I upgrade the ELK from 8.5.1 to 8.11.4 \[Docker\] without losing data?

I have this cluster on premisse and would like to upgrade the version but as it is on Docker I'm not sure on how I could keep the older data into the newest version.

You have a cluster on docker on version 8.5.1 and want to upgrade to 8.11.4?

How are running it? Is everything on a docker compose or do you have multiple servers and in each one of them you are running Elasticsearch using docker? It is not clear how you are running it.

If you are using persistent volumes for your containers, than you should have no issue upgrading.

Everything is in a docker-compose. I am not very familiar with the usage of containers and still trying things out, but I'll check on the persistent volumes that you've mentioned.
