# How to change the data type of my index pattern?

I would like to change the UploadTimestamp from string to date. It's grayed-out.

You can't change it once it's been defined in Elasticsearch in that index. The only ways to change the format are;

- reindex into a new index
- resend the data to Elasticsearch (aka reindex)
