# How to check the default value of \`dynamic\_date\_formats\` and other mapping settings?

New to Elasticsearch, and I am wondering how to check the current value of `dynamic_date_formats`.

The online document, [here](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/dynamic-field-mapping.html#_customizing_detected_date_formats), provides an example of setting customized value, but I did not find how to check its value.

> ```shell
> PUT my-index-000001
> {
> "mappings": {
> "dynamic_date_formats": ["MM/dd/yyyy"]
> }
> }
> 
> ```

Also, I am also looking into the other arguments of the mapping settings, e.g., the [Mapping limit settings](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/mapping-settings-limit.html#mapping-settings-limit), including `index.mapping.total_fields.limit` and others. I wonder how to check the values of these argument as well.

We highly appreciate any hints and suggestions.
