# How to do log parsing

This is my log.  
i used "elastic" and "filebeat" and "kibana"

I'm a beginner who just started studying.

I want to parse and use the contents of "message".

Where should I start and what should we do?

You'd be looking at an [ingest pipeline](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/7.10/pipeline.html) which uses a [grok](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/7.10/grok-processor.html) and a [json](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/7.10/json-processor.html) processor.

This will just get you started. Next steps would be to enrich your events and convert your fields to the [Elastic Common Schema](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/ecs/current/index.html)

When the pipeline is setup you have to [specify the pipeline](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/beats/filebeat/current/filebeat-input-log.html#_pipeline_11) to be used in filebeat.
