# How to manage data retention time in ElasticSearch

Hello,  
What is default of index data retention?  
If I want to change and edit this retentions for customize the time, if the data after I specifically time I want to remove this data.  
Thanks in advance for your help.

[ILM](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/index-lifecycle-management.html) is what you should be using.
