# How to measure daily log volume (count and size) in Elasticsearch?

Hi Elastic community,

I’m looking for a reliable way to track the amount of logs we are receiving in our Elasticsearch/ELK stack on a daily basis. Specifically, I’d like to know:

1. The number of logs ingested per day.

2. The total size in GB of logs ingested per day.

What’s the best way to achieve this? Should I use Kibana visualizations or Elasticsearch dev tools queries ? Any example queries or dashboards would be very helpful.

Hello @gueguet45

Elasticsearch has a built-in feature that tracks this automatically. On the **stack monitoring,** you can see the "Indexing Rate" per second (events/s) over time.

use elastic api for it

`GET index_name/_count`

```auto
GET /_cat/indices/<INDEX_NAME>?v&bytes=mb

```

Which version are you using? Newer versions like 9.2 have the Streams app in Kibana where you can easily have this information.
