# How to read .gz file using filebeat?

My setup is working fine and able to read log files. But not able to load .gz files .  
Please assist.

Hello @sudhish_op, Sadly Filebeat doesn't currently support gz files we have an [issue open](https://github.com/elastic/beats/issues/637) for it.

Thanks for your reply. Is there anyway to read gz file with Kibana as UI?. I mean using any other tool?

@sudhish_op it is a one time import or you will constantly have gz files? Are theses gz files produced by a log rotate process?

every 1 hr new gz file will be pushed. It is produced by log rotation process and stored in different system.

I am pulling these file to my system (using scp script) and I want to keep this in gz format itself considering disk space.
