# How to remove a data node from an ES cluster gracefully? (v1.7.5)

Hello All,

How do I remove a node from an Elasticsearch cluster?

There is a cluster with four data nodes, i would like to have all data migrated from one node, then shut that node down.

What is the best way of doing this?
