# How to search for non english utf-8 symbols

Trying a very simple query on an analyzed text field and getting no results back. This is the query

```
GET _search
{
  "query": {
    "match": {
      "receipt": {
        "query": "₡"
      }
    }
  },
  "size": 10
}

```

What can I do to make this search return results with this ₡ currency symbol?

Play around with analysis. The [analysis](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/indices-analyze.html) API section and the [analysis](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/analysis.html) section of the docs are good reads for this. You'll want to use either a `keyword` or `whitespace` analyzer or something like that.
