How to stop kibana . We are download tar file and unzipped after i will run kibana. cd kibana/bin ./kibana Above start kibana. But how to stop kibana. Could you please tell me. ---

ctrl+c would normally stop it. you could also find the process `ps -af | grep kibana` and then kill it `kill KIBANAPID` ---

Thanks , Some times not stoping. I will shows already runing. ps -af | grep kibana above one i am already tried. But not stoping. ---

ps will just list your processes ... you need to find the PID of the right one and then send it a signal to stop with kill command. ---

assuming you are using red hat linux, you might be interested in this guide: [https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/kibana/current/rpm.html](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/kibana/current/rpm.html) on how to use rpm modules, which will also create a service for you and then you can start/stop kibana just like you do other services with ```auto sudo -i service kibana start sudo -i service kibana stop ``` ---

what do you mean its not working ? output from your command ? if kill is not working that's a problem with your linux i guess. ---

i know how to create rpm. But my manager saying you need to install tar file only.some time we need to backup easily. thats why i am using tar file only. I can use kill command it will showing working fine.But i run it again it showing already runing. that s the reason. Could you please help me. ---

after you kill it will it still show up in ps -af ? ---

yes , but no process is runing it showing. after kill . we need to start again kibana. it will showing its already runing. ---

i don't understand you well ..... but if `ps -af` doesn't show any kibana process after you kill it .... then its obviously not running anymore. maybe something else using its port ? `netstat -natp | grep 5601` do you see anything using that port ? kill that PID. also `kill -9 PID` will kill the process even if its not responding. ---
