# How to transform input before indexing document into elastic search

Hi All,

I have requirement, where I want to store the value into property after removing special characters from request. I tried using mapping-transform but its giving mapper\_parsing\_exception.

Is there any way where we can manipulate input before indexing it into elasticsearch?

Hi @Ajinkya_Pathrudkar,

as far as I know, you would have to use [Logstash filters](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/logstash/current/transformation.html) or [Elasticsearch Ingest Pipelines](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/pipeline.html) for that.

There might be other ways. Those are the ones I know of...
