# How to use "index.allocation.max\_retries"

Hi,

How do I set "index.allocation.max.retries" ?  
([https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/5.0/cluster-reroute.html#\_retry\_failed\_shards](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/5.0/cluster-reroute.html#_retry_failed_shards))

What is the time unit in seconds or minutes?

Also, how do I use '?retry\_failed' in the '\_reroute' API?

it's retries, ie how many retries until it stops trying 🙂
