# How to work Index Template?

Hi there!

I'm using AWS Managed OpenSearch 2.17.

I'm just wondering how to work Index Templates of Elasticsearch.  
I want to make Index Template in Dashboard of AWS OpenSearch.

If I only define 'Number of primary shards, Number of replicas', then what happen for other setting fields?

Those would follow set-up when create Index automatically?  
Or, Should I put more settings for templates.

I'm new to use this tool🥲
