# How use logstash not installed on appserver

I want to use logstash to collect application logs. But it's irregular install logstash on appserver in my company. So if I install logstash to another server, then how to collect application logs? How to configure logstash?

Theoretically you could read the log files from a network share (hosted by the application server) but that's not a very good idea. The recommended way is to install some kind of agent on the server and ship the logs over the network, but if the concern with Logstash is the resource requirements than I suggest pitching Filebeat. It has a very low overhead.
