# How we can check replica is enable or not in elastic search version 1.3.x?

Hi,

How we can check replica is enable or not in elastic search version 1.3.x ?

if it is set to 1 then does it mean we have additional copy of data ?

if it is not then what should i do for same ( need additional copy of data )?

Please suggest !!

Assuming that you have enough nodes in the cluster (Elasticsearch will not allocate replicas to any node that already holds a copy), you should be able to use the [update indices settings API](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/1.3/indices-update-settings.html). 1.3.x is however a very, very old version, so you should really think about upgrading.
