# I can't authenticate using 'elastic' , 'kibana\_system' in ELK version 8.5

Hi @linux_admin,

Have you checked the health of the cluster using the [`_cluster/health` API?](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/cluster-health.html)?

Do you have the password for the `elastic` and `kibana_system` users? There is also a useful way to check passwords in [this topic](https://discuss.elastic.co/t/failed-to-authenticate-user-kibana-system/282864).
