# I have a production Elastic 6.1 and kibana 6.1 and need to move to 7.1 of both

I have running Elastic 6.1 and kibana 6.1 production with lot of data  
what is the best way to migrate to the 7.1 of elastic and 7.1 of kibana also

I am not able to communicate between 7.1 kibana to 6.1 of ES

can u please help me what is the best way to do it

For elasticsearch, start with [https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/setup-upgrade.html](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/setup-upgrade.html) I would create a snapshot of your data and restore it manually.

For Kibana, start with [https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/kibana/current/upgrade.html](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/kibana/current/upgrade.html). Export your saved objects (Management \> Saved objects), and then re-import them. If you have a Basic license, you can also use the upgrade assistant for Kibana [https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/kibana/7.0/upgrade-assistant.html](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/kibana/7.0/upgrade-assistant.html)

Since you are jumping a major version, please take note of any possible breaking changes.
