# Ideal Shard number of Single node

Hello...  
I want to use a single node for my indexes  
what is the difference of multiple shards and only one shard given single node.  
and is it better to use multiple shards than one shard?  
Any comments will be helpful to me...

But It says in aspect of multi-node.  
I want to know in aspect single node...  
so hard to fully understand

It still applies. Having multiple shards just means you can scale beyond a single node.

thanks....I read again ..  
Mabey Maximum size for one shard is 50G...so if I need to index more 50G data , I need to make multiple shard ...ryt?  
as much as data size ..
