Hi All,

duing the setup of my ILM policy for the indices , i am facing the errors

```auto
illegal_argument_exception: setting [index.lifecycle.rollover_alias] for index [csec_uat.test] is empty or not defined.
```

even after i have setup the aliases for indices but it is giving the errors for newly indices and also when i tried to map the policy to existing or older indices its giving the same errors .

- my elk is 8.5.3 version

my logstash does not have the rollover aliases defined so, as part of 8.5.x is it mandatory to define the aliases to work ILM properly ?

please can someone elaborate more
