# Impact of not upgrading to 7.17 first

Please can anyone explain the impact of not upgrading to 7.17 for auditbeat and winlogbeat?

I am trying to troubleshoot an ELK stack and the previous team have upgraded from 7.10 straight to 8.12 (even though all the documentation says to go to 7.17 first).
