# Index Lifecycle Policies and existing index

Hi,

I have a rather large index that i`d like to be split daily. I have setup the lifecycle policy but as the index was already in commission the ILP won`t kick in. How do i get ingest data to start on a new index with the ILP and what to do with the existing index?
