# Index Pattern not available when creating a Map layer

I had issues getting Discover to allow me to select data from an index pattern, but fixed this by setting my new index pattern as the default. When attempting to create a map layer from this index pattern, it is not listed in the list of available index patterns.

Hello,

For your indexpattern to appear for a map layer - it needs to have geo data.  
Can you check your mapping and see if you have data of type geo\_point and geo\_shape?
