# Indexing buffer settings | Elasticsearch Guide \[8.13\] | Elastic

in which part of the Elasticsearch.yml do I put the following settings:

```auto
indices.memory.index_buffer_size: 20%
indices.memory.index_buffer_size: 512mb

```

Thanks @dfir for reaching out here. You should be able to change these variables in the node settings section of your `Elasticsearch.yml` file. [This article](https://opster.com/guides/elasticsearch/capacity-planning/changing-nodes-heap-memory-allocation-and-limits/) may be helpful to take a look at.
