# Inherit index in visualisatitions from dashboard

Is it possible to define a generic visualization so that you could choose the index in the dashboard and that this choice would be inherited by the searches, histograms and timelions ?

My data is organized with documents of a certain "type" in indexes for different domains.  
So that a user could just change the index and get the reports without having to create a full set of visualizations for each index and a separate dashboard.

Hi @okvittem,

this is unfortunately not possible right now. But you are not alone with that usage scenario as can be seen from the [corresponding github issue](https://github.com/elastic/kibana/issues/3668). Feel free to add your thoughts and comments on that to give it more weight.
