# Installation help needed

hi, i downloaded the installation file, unzipped it and clicked the elasticsearch.bat file as the instruction showed, but a black window appeared in less than a second and then disappeared and nothing happens. why???

Did you check the log directory for logfile output? [Look at the docs](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/zip-windows.html) to discover where your logs directory is.
