# Ip skype voice service monitoring with apm

**APM Agent language and version** :

I want to monitor the availability of voice services over ip  
I could not start the agent, I'm using windows 10, unload the agent java, my question is, the agent is installed on the application server or I can use the agent on a computer that has the application installed as skype

The Java agent needs to be installed on [one of the listed supported servers](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/apm/agent/java/current/supported-technologies-details.html#supported-app-servers) in order to provide automatic tracing.  
It can be used for tracing any Java app using [manual instrumentation](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/apm/agent/java/current/public-api.html) as well, but it must be installed on the monitored JVM.
