# Is having laodbalancer better than sniffing cluster through client

Is having loadbalancer better than sniffing cluster through client?

What is the recommended way to connect to es cluster from applications?

Welcome!

No it's not better than having a coordinating node in front. The node belongs to the cluster and knows exactly where are located the shards in the cluster.  
A load balancer won't be aware of it.
