# Is index\_prefixes intended to be used with text fields only?

Hello,

It seems `index_prefixes` mapping parameter is only available for `text` fields but it is not really obvious in the doc.

Why this parameter is not available for `keyword` fields ?  
Is it because the performance on small texts would be minor (while the indexing cost is real) ?

If yes, should we specify it in the doc like for `index_options` mapping parameter ?
