# Java heap adjustments

Hi,  
I am using es 2.4 and trying to adjust the java heap

I have set the `jvm.options` in `/etc/elasticearch/` both min and max to `10g`, also in `etc/init.d/elasticsearch` I updated the value of `ES_HEAP_SIZE` to `10g`, still the memory that's utilised by es is not what I set, I dont know where the values get read

please shed some light

Okay, just in case someone else is stuck where I wasted 1 full precious day

The settings for all the environment variables are in `/etc/default/elasticsearch`

And reading this can be helpful too if you want to setup a cluster:
