# JVM crashes when trying to run elasticsearch

Hello,

I'm trying to configure ES on a server running CentOS 5.6 x86\_64.  
Whenever I run elasticsearch the JVM dies with the error I'm attaching  
below. I would really appreciate any help, I have tried with Java 6  
and Java 7 and both return the same error.

Don't use ES/Lucene with Java 7 (not sure what exactly broke for you  
with Java 6)

It seems like it fails on loading the sigar library. The sigar library is  
used to provide os level native stats and info, but its completely optional.  
You can simply delete the sigar directory under lib, and it will then not be  
used. Also, note that its recommended, for the time being, to use Java 6 and  
not 7 (as otis mentioned).

Thank you for the help. I reverted back to Java 6 and removed the  
sigar/ library as instructed and was able to run ES, so I think it was  
indeed a problem with the sigar library.

I really appreciate the help, thank you very much.
