# \[Kibana 5.1.2\] Create filter from scratch

Is there any way or are there any plans to enable the user to create a filter from scratch without having to click on an element to filter for? This was present in Kibana 3

Hi Erik,  
There's not a way to just add a new empty filter and then write your own.

Here's one potentially related request;
