# Kibana connection without enrollment token

Can we connect to elasticsearch using Kibana without the **enrollment token** and **username-password**?
I tried sometime back, then it was not mandatory to provide enrollment token.
Even tried setting **xpack.security.enrollment.enabled=false** but again it's asking for enrollment.

Disabling the security settings is not something that we recommend. Are you following along with [the guide for setting up security on the Elastic Stack](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/configuring-stack-security.html)? You could try generating a new enrollment token using the create tool [as per the docs](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/create-enrollment-token.html) if that helps?

I tried a month back, then It was not mandatory to use enrollment token.
Am I correct?

Which version of Elastic are you using now and as of a month ago? I know security was enabled by default on self-managed clusters as of version 8. There's an overview [in this blog](https://www.elastic.co/blog/introducing-simplified-elastic-stack-security). But I'm not aware of the enrollment token being mandatory changing.
Someone else might know otherwise!
