# Kibana issue with index and Life cycle policy

To help me with a different issue I have reverted to trying to us the kibana ui to complete some activities.  
Currently I have created an index using the put command and then in the ui added an ILM. However the ui is now saying  
"1 index has lifecycle errors"  
I click on show errors but that just loads up the index it doesn't actually say what the issue is. What do I need to do to determine when is wrong ?

Hi @tractor_boy. Sorry to hear about your trouble. Can you check the [Explain API](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/ilm-explain-lifecycle.html) in Dev Console to see if there are reported errors? Not sure why the UI wouldn't report any errors. Maybe we can figure this out and open a bug report if necessary.
