# Kibana quits every day

Hello,

I am running kibana with nohup since I did not find a better way to start it as a service but it keeps exiting every day without any errors. Is there another way to start it without needing to restart it every day?

Use a proper init script. Details depends on what distribution you run but see below for a few pointers.

I have installed the init script for debian which I have found on one of the posts in that issue (some time a go) but was not doing anything. I have run the startup command manually with --verbose option and I got the following:

root@elk1:/etc/init.d# start-stop-daemon --start --user "nobody" -c "nobody" --pidfile "/var/run/kibana.pid" --make-pidfile --background --exec /opt/kibana4/bin/kibana --verbose  
Starting /opt/kibana4/bin/kibana...  
root@elk1:/etc/init.d# Detaching to start /opt/kibana4/bin/kibana...done.

basically it has exited without starting the process.

I am running this on a debian jessie.

I know it's not helping, but Elastic had repos for Kibana 4.1.0 and 4.1.1 then stopped building them.

Here is the init.d file for Debian/Ubuntu that was used with 4.1 and 4.1.1 (and it still works for 4.3.1):
