# Kibana (selector control)

i applied a parent control between two selectors in kibana but i loose the ability to use only the child .
it's only possible to use the couple ( parent,child) and the child selector is locked when i dont choose an option in the parent .

Hi,
I assume you are talking about input controls here. What I assume you're doing is having two input controls, you declare one to be a child of the other. The child only filters down data based on the selection in the first.
It is not possible to currently change this behavior. We have an issue open with an enhancement request for this: [https://github.com/elastic/kibana/issues/56913](https://github.com/elastic/kibana/issues/56913)
so I'd suggest you follow that issue for updates.
