# Logstash in the cloud

Am I right in thinking that if I want to use a customized logstash to ingest data into elastic search running under elastic cloud, then I need to get a separate cloud machine to run the logstash instance and connect it, via a cloud id, to the elastic cloud instance?

Customized in terms of running a specific ingestion configuration, reading data from file.
