# Logstash installation getting failed

Hi ,

I have logstash 7.16.3 installed in my machine. If I try to remove this and install 8.x versions of logstash using the RPM files, the installation is getting failed with the below error. Could anyone please help on this?

error: unpacking of archive failed on file /usr/share/logstash/vendor/bundle/jruby/3.1.0/gems/logstash-integration-kafka-11.3.3-java/vendor/jar-dependencies/org/xerial/snappy/snappy-java/1.1.10.5/snappy-java-1.1.10.5.jar;66edc71f: cpio: read

Hi @ErGeek

**Were you able to completely remove Logstash 7.16.3 before attempting to install version 8.x?**

- If not, there might be old files causing conflicts during the installation. Removing all related directories could resolve this.

After that, what steps are you following until the failure occurs?
