**The Logstash Forwarder is being retired and replaced with [Filebeat](https://www.elastic.co/products/beats/filebeat).** * * * Filebeat has improved functionality, including the ability to ship to [multiple different outputs](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/beats/filebeat/current/filebeat-configuration-details.html#configuration-output) such as directly to [Elasticsearch](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/beats/filebeat/current/filebeat-configuration-details.html#elasticsearch-output) or to [Logstash](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/beats/filebeat/current/filebeat-configuration-details.html#logstash-output), both with optional TLS/SSL. It also comes with its own [Logstash input plugin](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/logstash/current/plugins-inputs-beats.html) which uses the existing Lumberjack protocol. Future improvements for Filebeat include [multiline support](https://github.com/elastic/beats/issues/461) and [field filtering](https://github.com/elastic/beats/issues/462).
