# Map - Add a dynamic scale and a north arrow on a map visualisation

Hello everybody!  
Anyone knows, how can we add a dynamic scale and the north arrow on a map visualisation?

I need to have the scale on the map to have an idea of the distance, to be able to measure it on a screen shot (a.e: A bar scale with the nominal scale , "xcm = ykm).

I think we also can do that directly on our geoserver, but it would not be the best way to do it either, as we would like to be able to activate/desactive the layer at any time.

Hello Loren,

These can't currently be added, but they might be relatively low-hanging fruit enhancement requests. Would you be willing to create feature requests [here](https://github.com/elastic/kibana/issues/new?template=Feature_request.md)?

Scale control added in 7.12. To enable, open [map settings](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/kibana/current/maps-settings.html#maps-settings-display) and check `Show scale`
