> Kibana uses an `extended_stats` aggregation on the right-side join field to decide how to interpolate the colors of your choropleth map. When `Apply global time to style metadata requests` is enabled, the `extended_stats` aggregation is built only on the range of data within the time picker. In your screenshot this is `Last 20 years` .
> 
> When disabled, the aggregation is not filtered by time.
