# Max number of Spaces and Roles in Kibana

Hi everyone,  
Is there a max limit to consider for creating Spaces and Roles in Kibana. Moreover, should I worry about cluster performance if I keep increasing number of spaces.

The max number of spaces is [configurable](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/kibana/current/spaces-settings-kb.html) and defaults to 1000.

Spaces should have no impact on cluster performance since they are not an Elasticsearch construct (Kibana only).

Looks like there's no limit other than disk space to the number of roles ([source](https://discuss.elastic.co/t/total-limits-of-users-and-roles-while-using-x-pack-plugin/127066)).

As far as roles impacting performance: my colleague says that hundreds is fine, millions is likely to have some impact. Numbers in the middle might have limited impact—you'd just have to feel your way.
