# Metricbeat logs in messages

Hi I am getting error in beat and it is stored in **/var/log/messages** and with 1.GB per day so how can i restrict the logs to enter into it

Hi @Surendra_Gupta,
If I understand correctly Metricbeat is logging too much, and this is using up too much space?
You can [configure logging](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/beats/metricbeat/current/configuration-logging.html#configuration-logging), however it's not possible to set a log level lower than _error_, so this probably won't solve your issue. It would be best to address the error itself.
