# Migrate elasticsearch data from 7.17 to 8.6.2 server

We are running elasticsearch on a single node.
We are in the process of upgrading our **Elasticsearch server from 7.17 to 8.6.2** and we want to migrate elasticsearch data from **7.17 to 8.6.2** version.
What is the best approach do perform this upgrade?
Also, I have seen compatibility issues while migrating existing data having lucene version older than the new server.

You should jump to 8.9.1 which is the latest and most stable version.
