# More fine-grained timing of different steps of processing search request

Hi,

I want to ask if is it possible to time the processing of different  
steps of a search request?

e.g.  
time used of different search requests in different shards  
time used of counting each facet

I think your request is similar to what Otis' was looking for a few  
weeks ago: [Redirecting to Google Groups](https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!topic/elasticsearch/cH9LWw9VAJM%5B1-25%5D)

Don't think there is anything builtin. The architecture behind  
Elasticsearch should make it possible, but it would probably be very  
low on the priority list.
